Intentional Focus Leads to Intentional Living

Hey there! So, you know how every new year brings that wave of setting resolutions and goals? And, may I ask, how well do YOU keep those resolutions going throughout the whole year?

New Year's Resolutions

FUN FACT: Failing at New Year’s resolutions is so common that there’s a few unofficial dates that commemorate these failures. January 17 - “Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day” or the second Friday in January as “Quitter’s Day.”

All joking aside, this can really deflate someone's ambitions and their desire to change habits or attain goals. It's not that you don't want to change or strive, it's that it takes time to turn a habit into a new norm and let's face it, life has a way of derailing us. So take a breath for a moment and give yourself a little grace. What if we had a different take on these "go getter" mindsets?

Well, there's this cool trend that's not about making a laundry list of things to do but picking just one word [A Focus Word] to be your guiding star for the whole year. Yep, it's like your personal theme song but in a single word or very short phrase 😜.

Focus Word for the Year

Why This Word Thing Matters

In a world full of distractions and constant hustle, having one word as your North Star can be a game-changer. It's like having a secret code that reminds you of what really matters and guides your decisions and actions.

What are your Values

Before we jump into the New Year, let’s hit the pause button. Think about the past year—what was awesome, what wasn't, and then ask yourself, where do I want to grow?

Got some values that really hit home? Awesome! Those will help set the stage for what’s coming.

How to Nail Down Your Focus Word

Get Deep and Explore

Take time to think about what you want to accomplish this year, what your values are, and reflect on what what worked and didn't work this past year.

Let’s Brainstorm!

Write down thoughts and words that inspire you. Don't overthink this, it's a brain dump.

Whittle it Down

Now take that list and create a shortlist. What 3-5 things stand out?

Test Drive Those Words

Do these words drive the actions and goals your want to achieve? Do they make your feel incredibly motivated or meh?

Time to Commit

What word/phrase speaks the loudest? Commit to it. Apply it to every decision you make.

Embracing Your Word

Once you’ve got your word, own it! Put it on your phone wallpaper, make it your daily mantra, or even shout it out loud (if that’s your thing). Let it be your sidekick throughout the year, nudging you in the right direction and keeping you focused on what truly matters.

Choosing a focus word might sound simple, but trust me, it’s a game-changer. It’s your shortcut to living intentionally, being clear about what you want, and making this a year of awesome growth and purpose.
